NEW DEVELOPMENTS

The City of Powell River recently announced a number of new developments that will be establishing operations in the community over the next 2 to 5 years. The following developments are expected to create close to 200 new jobs and close $40 to $50 million in new investment.

• Sino Bright International School
o Development plan is to build an International School Campus (with dormitories) on lands next to Brooks Secondary School
o Target is to have an enrolment of up to 400 students from mainland China
o $20 million investment in the community

• Santé Veritas Therapeutics Inc
o Has an MOU in place with the City of Powell River to lease and possibly purchase the former Catalyst Administration Building property for a Medical Marijuana production facility licensed by Health Canada
o Will spend $2.5 to $3.5 million to renovate the building
o Will spend up to $4.5 million annually in the local economy on employment, services and supplies
o Will create up to 50 jobs in Phase 1 of the development

• Upper Valley Aviation
o Plane refurbishment and maintenance business
o Expanding to increase business by handling larger planes (Dash 7’s and 8’s), and will build a facility twice the size of its operations in Chilliwack at Powell River Airport
o Up to 50 jobs

• Pacific Coastal Airlines
o One BC’s largest regional airlines
o Will be building a maintenance and rebuild facility for its fleet at Powell River airport
o Initially will move 15 to 20 jobs from its operations at YVR

• Agrimarine Technologies Inc.
o Land Based Aquaculture using Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)
o Seafood Processing Facility
o Up to 50 jobs
o Working with PRSC Limited Partnership to acquire marine industrial lands south of Catalyst Paper
