Julia Steele is an award-winning writer and editor who for many years worked as a journalist in Hawaiʻi, first founding a progressive weekly newspaper called Honolulu Weekly and then editing the largest magazine in Hawaiʻi, Hana Hou!, where she wrote dozens of long-form narrative non-fiction articles (many of which are collected on her website, juliaportersteele.com).
She is currently a writer-in-residence at the Tidal Art Centre in Lund, where she is at work on her first novel. A dual citizen of Canada and the United States, she is delighted to be doing her first reading in Canada at the library in Powell River. She will read a selection of non-fiction and fiction.
