Willingdon Beach Trail

Willingdon Beach Trail is located on the north side of the park, along the beachfront. One of the easier loop trail systems to access, the trail system follows an old 1910 rail bed that was used to carry logs to dumping wharf of the Powell River Company Mill. The Willingdon Beach Trail is a 1.2 km trail ideal for hikers and mountain bikers that should take you no longer than an hour.

Willingdon Beach Trail has some interpretive signs along the route. The time to complete the trail could depend on many factors. One of which is how many times you stop along the trail to admire some of the old growth forests mixed with Douglas Fir, Grand Fir, Red Alder, Western Red Cedar and Broadleaf Maple.

Or to explore the remnants of the areas local history positioned along the trail, including forestry and First Nations artifacts. The crushed clam shells marking the entrance of the trail has been left behind by the 2,000 year old history of the Sliammon First Nation people.

The Willingdon Beach Trail has some exposed beach walking opportunities. It is a good idea to check out the tides as there are two areas that are very difficult to pass at high tides.

Willingdon Beach Park has parking, concession stand, museum, waterpark and grassy area. Down on the beach, you will find many people, during the peak seasons, swimming and enjoying a picnic along the banks. There is a public washroom facility located next to the playground. Camping is also available at the municipal campsite located next to the park.

Access to the Willingdon Beach Trail: The start of the easy grade, Willingdon Beach Trail, is located north of the Museum. The best entrance to the trail is from Willingdon Beach Park, where the park meets the Campsite, along the beachfront.
